The OS also supports a huge amount of applications and software's that make it compatible with almost any kind of usage. Hence, Windows OS is used in every field of computing like education, entertainment, banking, accounting, business, web design and much more. But the weakest point of windows OS is that it is prone to attacks by malicious software and viruses. Also, there may be unauthorized usage which compromises on security. But Windows users have a lot of important data stored on their computers and also share their banking info and sensitive details from their machines. Therefore, it is very important for each user to protect PC from hackers and free of malware, virus and security leaks. So, if you are concerned about the security of your windows machine, look no further as we have all the tips and tricks that you can follow to keep your windows security top notch. Follow the tips and tricks given below to completely secure your PC against any kind of threat.

1. Keep Windows Up To Date.

Believe it or not, Microsoft is continuously working to make Windows OS more and more secure. The OS is constantly updated with security patches and updates. Most users ignore the updates notifications, therefore all windows users are advised to always update their windows PC to the latest version. This keeps the security bugs in check and also fixes the existing flaws in windows security.

2. Update Softwares Application.

Like Windows updates, the software application companies also continuously push updates in order to fix flaws and improve the security of all windows programs. Companies like adobe, Google, java, auto-desk, etc. push updates to make their software more secure. This makes this software fight latest security threats. Hence, to protect PC from hackers, users must always use the latest versions of software and keep their work and data safe & secure.

3. Create A Restore Point.

Most windows users don't know this but there is a Restore feature in windows that you can use in case something messes up your system to restore the settings and application data. The system Restore reverts the settings and installations back to a certain point of time. You can decide this point of time. We recommend you to create a Restore point at a time when your PC is properly configured and everything is working just like you want it to. By doing this, you can easily Restore all your settings and software application along with their data in case something goes wrong. It similar to going back in time, when your system encounters a fatal attack.

4. Use Security Programs.

With increasing threats to windows security, using a good security software application is a good idea. There are tons of antivirus and security programs available for windows. These programs are both free and paid so users can choose according to their needs. If you don't want to install a 3rd party software, windows also have some Security features built in. You can use windows defender which is a PC Antivirus. You must also turn on windows firewall which protects your PC against unwanted access through the network. But a 3rd party software may be more efficient.

Another area where windows users need to take measures to protect PC from hackers and viruses is the infection due to malware and Spyware. Malware and Spyware send your personal data to questionable servers and show ad popups and slow down your computer by installing malicious content. Signs of Spyware and malware infection are slow processing, pop-up windows, toolbars, modified homepage, error messages, etc. In order to get rid of such infection, use a trusted Anti-Malware & AntiSpyware tool.

6. Create User Accounts.

Windows OS offers to create different user accounts with different settings and application data. This means each user account has its own files. Thus, users can use this to increase security. Let's tell you how. You can separate all your work and personal data so important stuff is safe when something goes wrong in your personal account. You should also use another account instead of the Administrator account in order to prevent application software to use unnecessary permissions and control. This definitely increases windows security.

7. Turn On Security Notifications.

Another way to make Windows OS secure is by knowing what is happening around in your system. Make sure you turn on all security notifications and pay attention to them. These can be enabled under user account control settings. Such notifications help windows users monitor the things that affect the security of windows systems and secure PC from hackers.windows security notifications

Nokia Just Launched Its Own Voice Assistant “MIKA” For Some Special Purpose

At this year’s Mobile World Congress, Nokia will demonstrate their new digital assistant called MIKA or Multi-purpose Intuitive Knowledge Assistant. Not a regular voice assistant like Siri, Cortana, and Alexa, MIKA is specially crafted for the telecommunication sector where it will be able to help the engineers with voice-activated access to information and save their time.
We recently heard about Nokia with the launch of the Nokia 6 smartphone, but it is a work of HMD Global carrying the Nokia brand name. The original Nokia has been living a low profile since it sold its smartphone business to Microsoft. However, last year, the company made news with some internet speed records and lawsuits againsApple.

In 2017, Nokia has arrived with something new, a voice-activated digital assistant. Although, it is not something we haven’t seen in the past. The digital assistant, known as MIKA (Multi-Purpose Intuitive Knowledge Assistant), is designed with a different utility in mind.
Instead of being a commercial voice assistant for everyday users to make online bookings and play music, MIKA will be used by engineers and operators in the telecom sector. It will help them access information using voice commands reducing their focus on less important things.
Nokia AVA, a cognitive service platform, is the driving force behind MIKA. The digital assistant leverages augmented intelligence and automated learning. It facilitates a plethora of tools, documents, and data sources. MIKA – accessible on web and mobile – can suggest network problem solutions based on what it has observed on other networks.
Nokia notes that their digital assistant can save around an hour of productive time in a day. The company is prepared to demonstrate their ambitious digital assistant tech at the Mobile World Congress 2017.
What do you think about MIKA digital assistant? Drop your thoughts in the comments.

How Your Android’s Pattern Lock Can Be Cracked In Just 5 Attempts

Pattern lock on Android smartphones is probably the quickest and easiest way to gain access to the device. A group of researchers has a created a computer vision algorithm which is capable of cracking complex pattern locks with an accuracy of 87.5% after analyzing a video recording. As a protective measure, you can use fingerprint input method on your smartphone.
Afew days ago, Fossbytes wrote about the list of the most popular (dumbest) passwords of 2016. You might be wise enough to consider a tough password for your devices and online accounts. But if you think that pattern lock is more secure than common passwords, your thinking will change after reading this story.

According to a new research published on Phys.org, it possible to crack a smartphone’s pattern lock in around five attempts, after which the device gets locked. It is possible by recording a video of people entering pattern lock on their phone.
The story isn’t as childish as it sounds. You’re not supposed to decipher the pattern from the video afterward. But a computer vision algorithm developed by the researchers – from Lancaster University, Northwest University of China, and the University of Bath – is assigned to do this task.
The algorithm can work with an accuracy of more than 80 percent for complex patterns and crack them in 5 attempts. In fact, they were able to crack simple pattern in the first attempt with 60 percent accuracy.
The software doesn’t even need to look at the screen to crack the pattern lock. It understands the movements of user’s fingers relative the smartphone from the video. After analyzing a video, the algorithm suggests a bunch of possible patterns.
Overall, a total of 120 unique patterns were checked. The researchers note that patterns involving more lines and complex shapes are easier for the algorithm to crack.
The attack can be done on any smartphone. Pattern locks are primarily used on the smartphones running the Android operating system. In the case of iOS devices, Pin lock is mostly used.

How to protect yourself?

It would be hard to protect your Android or any other smartphone from the digital eyes out there in the wild. Recording a video of you entering your pattern lock on your Android smartphone is an easy task for any shoulder surfer in subways.
If we consider a practical scenario, even if a person records a video, it would be hard to gain physical access to your smartphone.
If your Android smartphone has a fingerprint sensor, you can prefer it over the pattern lock. Alternatively, you can cover your fingers while entering the pattern lock. Moreover, keeping a simple pattern lock help as the algorithm finds it difficult to crack.

Breaking News:- Facebook Shareholders Want To Remove Mark Zuckerberg As Board Chairman

Facebook’s co-founder is currently the CEO and the board chairman. A proposal filed by shareholders, who also belong to the group SumOfUS, puts emphasis on the appointment of a new ‘independent’ chairman for the Facebook’s board of directors. This is to suit the best interests of the shareholders in the long run.

Facebook might be reaching the paradigms of success, but the company’s shareholders aren’t very much comfortable with all the powers Mark Zuckerberg has. Since 2012, Zuckerberg has been acting as both the CEO and the board chairman at Facebook.

According to a proposal submitted by the shareholders – who are a part of the corporate power damper group SumOfUS – that there is a need for independent Chairman of Facebook’s board. “In our view, shareholder value is enhanced by an independent board chair who can provide a balance of power between the CEO and the board and support strong board leadership.” – reads the proposal.
Another thing that escalates the shareholders’ eagerness for an independent chair is the new capital structure approved by Facebook last year. It introduced new non-voting Class C stocks and aimed at fuelling Zuckerberg’s philanthropy projects for which he would be selling 99% of his shares. However, the new structure compelled a shareholder to file a lawsuit as it increases Zuckerberg’s control over the company.
Shareholders further say that the new independent chairman’s appointment would be “particularly constructive” in the times when Facebook is being accused of behaving as a promotional platform for fake news, hate speech, and other scenarios. Ultimately, it’s the Zuckerberg-led Facebook board to make a decision on this proposal.
If you have something to add, drop your thoughts and feedback.

Gtbank Add more security to 737 Shortcode Service

If you are a client of Guaranty Trust Bank, the code * 737 # will not be new to you. We all know how easy it is to operate the GTBank 737 shortcode service. You can buy Airtime, check your balance, make a transfer etc using this short code of service. Only required for the last 4 digits of your ATM card before processing any transaction. 4-digit PIN is only for processing your transactions.

But now, GTBank has made the service even more secured. Using just the last 4 digits on your ATM card isn't secured at all; because anyone who steals your phone and wallet (where your bank card is likely to be) can use the service

Well, GTBank has looked into this and now made it more secured. The service now requires a 4-digit PIN to be able to complete transactions on the service. That is certainly a more secure approach to the service than the previous use of your card’s last 4 digits. It is a surprise that it took 11 months, but better late than never.

HOW TO CREATE A PIN ON GTBANK'S 737 SERVICE

According to the instructions on GTBank’s website, here is how to create a PIN for use on the 737 platform:

1. Dial *737*5# on the phone number that is linked to your account.
2. Input the last 6 digits of your ATM debit card
3. Create your 4-digit PIN
4. You will be asked for your 4-digit PIN to complete any transactions on the service, so do not forget it.

WhatsApp Brought in New 'Status' Related to Snapchat Feature

Whatsapp is clearly dominating global instant messenger market at present. It has been pushing in some seriously interesting updates from the past few months, turning it for the first time into a platform for passively consuming content, similar to the way people scroll through their Facebook or Instagram newsfeeds.

According to a blog post, Jan Koum, co founder of WhatsApp made the announcement:

We are excited to announce that, coinciding with WhatsApp’s 8th birthday on February 24, we are reinventing the status feature. Starting today, we are rolling out an update to status, which allows you to share photos and videos with your friends and contacts on WhatsApp in an easy and secure way. Yes, even your status updates are end-to-end encrypted.

This update will expire after 24 hours, and is also said to be encrypted end-t0-end. Meanwhile, you can sense that new status feature is much similar to the famous “Stories” by  Snapchat. Facebook has also started testings, a “Stories”section of their mobile app.

How to Use New WhatsApp Status Features

As you would expect, Status gets a tab of its own, in between Chats and Calls. It's easy to create Status messages, especially if you've used the aforementioned Stories feature in either Snapchat or Instagram. WhatsApp Status updates you create are visible to your contacts by default, though you can change them to My contacts except... or Only share with... as well.

10 Mysterious Phones Nokia Created In Its Days Of Glory

Short Bytes: Nokia is nowhere to be seen in the smartphone market, but the company was a maker of many noteworthy devices in the history of mobile phones. Here are some Nokia phones whose designs were off-center beyond the extent many people can digest.
Nokia is the company which define the early age of smartphones and produced some of the toughest devices, the Nokia 3310. During its golden period, Nokia released hundreds of mobile devices. But some of those devices really need an acknowledgment in the era of design-centric smartphones. Here some of the weirdest mobile phones Nokia created under its roof. Some of these devices were a part of Nokia Fashion series. Many people including me don’t have any idea these devices actually existed.

Nokia 3250

Nokia 3250

Release: 2005
This Symbian running phone was internally called Thunder by Nokia. The twist functionality allowed its user to turn the phone into a dedicated music device as it also featured control keys on the other side of the twistable portion.

Nokia N-gage

Nokia N-gage

Release: 2003
It was codenamed Starship, and it did look like some outer space gadget from early alien movies. N-gage, inspired from the word ‘engage’, was intended to be a handheld gaming device in addition to being a mobile phone.

Nokia 3650

Nokia 3650

Release: 2002
Nokia 3650 had its buttons arranged in a circular fashion. It was a smartphone running Sybian S60 and received mixed reviews from users. Some people said the rotary keypad design helped them in typing messages quickly.

Nokia 6800

Image: TelegraphRelease: 2003
This Nokia Series 40 device was another attempt by Nokia to create a convertible device. Nokia 6800’s regular numeric keyboard could be turned over to facilitate a full qwerty keyboard for the phone.

Nokia 7370

Image: The InformrRelease: 2005
Although Nokia 7370 looks like a slider phone, it’s upper part was designed to rotate 180-degrees to become compact and cover the numeric keypad.

Nokia 7700

Nokia 7700

Release: Not Released
Nokia 7700 was meant to be the first multimedia phone from the house of Nokia, but it suffered a bad fate. It was announced in 2003 but never made it to the market shelves. In fact, it doesn’t look like a phone at all.

Nokia 7600

Image: EsatoRelease: 2003
The teardrop-shaped Nokia 7600 was the second 3G compatible and one of the early Nokia phones to feature a camera. Its artistic design made it difficult to use but it wasn’t as small as it appears in the image which was a slight relief for its users.

Nokia 7280

Nokia 7280

Image: PCMagRelease: 2004
This phone was serious design work by Nokia and the company received appraisals for that. Nokia 7280 was called Lipstick phone and it didn’t have a keypad, but something called a Navi-spinner to control the phone.

Nokia 7705

nokia 7705

Nokia created this phone specifically for Verizon. Nokia 7705’s swivel design allowed a qwerty keypad to hide behind the screen when not in use. The contact light ring on the lower right corner lit at the time of an incoming call.

Nokia 3200

 Nokia 3200

Release: 2003
Nokia 3200 was based on the S40 platform and came in colorful variants. It was a part of the Expression series and received positive reviews from the critics although it didn’t taste much popularity in comparison to Nokia 3100, its predecessor.
In case we missed “alien” phone by Nokia, don’t forget to tell us in comments below, we might add that to the list.

How to Find Update History in Windows 10

In Windows 10, you have very little control over updates. In fact, updates are automatically installed. If you wish, you can postpone the changes (if you use the Pro version) and set the active hours and restart the custom time to make it easier to install the update. Each time an update is installed, you will receive a simple notification in the Action Center informing you that updates have been installed.

Since Windows downloads and installs updates permanently, you may be curious about what updates have been installed on your system or what changes are causing problems. In these situations, it is best to check the Windows update history. This helps you better understand what updates have been installed correctly or have not been able to install. This article will show you how to display Windows updates in Windows 10 history.

As I said before, seeing the change history in Windows 10 is quite simple. To get started, click the notification icon in the lower right corner.

The previous action will open the Windows Activity Center 10. Then click the "All Parameters" button to open the Settings application. You can also use the "Win + I" key combination.

After opening the Settings application, go to "Update and Security."

In the Security Update and Window, go to "Windows Update" in the left pane. Now click on the "Place the Historical Day" option in the right pane under the "Update Status" section.

Once the link is clicked, Windows will show you all installed updates. The nice thing about this feature is that it will show clearly when updates have been installed with all attempts to update the installation has failed.

In the case of failed update installations, Windows will attempt to reinstall without having to download the update again. However, if the downloaded update has been corrupted, you can re-download the entire update.

Each update will have its own KB number (KnowledgeBase). To obtain information about an error or update installed, simply click on the "installation" that appears just below the update.

This action will show you general information that is not particularly useful most of the time.

However, by clicking on the "More", you can see all the things that there is an update directly from the Microsoft Knowledge Base site.

If you want to uninstall a particular update, click the "Uninstall updates" link at the top of the window.

The action on top of the usual control panel. Then select the update to uninstall and click on the "Delete" button that appears in the navigation bar. This action will delete the selected update.

Note that when you uninstall an update in Windows 10, over time the update is downloaded and installed. Therefore, to temporarily stop the installation of the update, use the Show or hide updates tool or simply postpone the updates (Pro version only).

Make comments below to share your thoughts and experiences on how to find the history of Windows Update and its usefulness.
